So you’d be forgiven for thinking that it would be a walk in the park to get your first job after qualifying, but that might not be the case. Employers still want someone with certain qualities that they can trust to get the job done to their standards.
You’ve still got to make an effort to stand out and secure your first job then. But how do you do that and what should you focus on?
Get Hired
To get a step ahead and find your first job as an HGV driver think about how you’re going to make the most of what you’ve already got:
- Attitude counts for a huge amount: be prepared for your interviews, research the company you’re interviewing with. What qualities do they look for? What values do they have as a company? Look for the latest news about the company too, you might be able to impress by showing off your knowledge of the company.
- You might not have driving experience, but you’ve got experience in other areas. Relate this experience to what they’re looking for. If you’ve got customer experience, show how you provided an excellent service to customers – customers are at the heart of every business.
- Consider signing up to a driver recruitment agency – they can guide you through the process of getting your first job as an HGV driver and give you advice on a range of different issues you might not have thought about yet.
